Grande Prairie’s CIBC Run for the Cure takes place in Muskoseepi Park Sunday, October 1 with a new addition. Development Involvement Coordinator Danica Friesen says on top of the classic run portion, a Colour Throw Section has been added.
“It should make the run more fun for people who want to take in the colour section. It will be a specific section along the way with music. It is a tonne of fun. It will be bright pink. It just adds to the pink feel of the day.”
All runners who plan to take part in that extra portion will be charged $10 on top of the money they’ve raised for the Canadian Cancer Society. Friesen says it will act like an extra fundraiser to rake in more funds.
Runners will have a choice of a 1k or 5k run through the park. So far, there are around 300 people signed up, but Friesen says there are hopes that they can get 400 people out to participate. There has been around $30,000 brought in for the society with a goal of $50,000 by the end of Sunday. A goal has been set to raise double that by the end of December 2017 for the Swan City chapter. Last year’s run brought in $27,000.
“If running or walking isn’t your thing, but you know someone who is, you can donate to them. All that you have to do is text your friend or family member to get their team name or look up their name on the website.”
